BOLTON musician Simon Aldred has revealed the story behind Liam Gallagher's Christmas single which he has co-written with the former Oasis frontman.

All You're Dreaming Of emerged in the summer after Gallagher developed an idea created by Aldred who has co-written a number of songs for the Britpop legend including For What It's Worth as well as Sam Smith's Leave Your Lover and Avicii's Waiting for Love.

Aldred, who used to record as Cherry Ghost, said: “During the first lockdown when everything was looking uncertain and people were struggling to remain optimistic, Liam and I spoke about how there weren't enough songs of hope.

"We set out to write a song that imagined a parent singing to their child about the importance of holding onto dreams and innocence, the capacity to disappear inside yourself and imagine a better future. A lullaby of hope.

"It was never meant to a Christmas song. But then Liam said, 'I can see New York shop windows, and snow outside, this reminds me of being a kid at Christmas when life was normal.' And so we reimagined it with that in mind.”

Proceeds from each download and stream of the song will go to the charity, Action For Children, from now until December 31, 2020.

Gallagher is set to make a return to live performing on Saturday, December 5 with Down By The River Thames. The virtual live event will see the 48-year-old accompanied by his full band for a set broadcast from a barge travelling along the Thames. The show will include iconic songs and fan favourites spanning both his solo career and his time with Oasis.
