A man has been taken to hospital after a crash in Bolton. 

Police said the car, a silver Mazda, collided with a lamppost after the driver failed to stop for police.

A 33-year-old has been taken to hospital for treatment. 

St Helens Road was closed both ways due to the accident on the Deane Church Lane and Morris Green Lane crossroads.

The crash happened around 11am this morning.

Bolton Central fire station crew manager, Mark Berry, said: "There was just one person involved who crashed into a CCTV mast.

"Only his car was damaged. We had to do some cutting to get them out of the car to be assessed and taken to hospital.

"We think he had a suspected broken arm but we do not believe his injuries to be life threatening.

"The police are there now dealing with it after we made the area safe."

One onlooker said: "A lot of emergency vehicles and someone was being cut out of the car."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 10.55am on Sunday 29 November 2020, police attempted to stop a silver Mazda which failed to stop for officers before colliding with a lamppost on St Helens Road, Bolton.

"A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.

"Enquiries are ongoing.

A post by Transport for Greater Manchester said: "Road traffic collision Bolton. A579 St Helens Road is closed in both directions at the Deane Church Lane/Morris Green Lane crossroads.

"Please use an alternative route."

The accident has been cleared and the road has reopened
