A YELLOW weather warning for fog has been issued for Lancashire tonight and for much of tomorrow.

Met Office officials issued the warning today for Blackburn with Darwen, part of the Ribble Valley and Chorley with freezing fog set to hit the county from 8pm on Thursday and lasting possibly up to 12pm on Friday.

This could become thick in places leading to poor visibility in these areas.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Fog and freezing fog patches are expected to develop quite widely on Thursday night, with some of these becoming dense in places with very poor visibility.

"This is most likely to affect parts of central England and east Wales, but other areas are also at risk.

"Fog is likely to be slow to clear during Friday and may last through the day in some places which may lead to some travel disruption."

Travellers have been warned to expect longer journey times, with delays to bus and rail travel and a chance of delays or cancellation to flights.

Motorists have been urged to take greater care when travelling at speed, while people have been advised to avoid travel if possible.

If they have no option but to travel by car, experts advise motorists to do so very slowly with dipped headlights.
