PLANS to build a detached house in garden have been thrown out after concerns were expressed from neighbours.

An application was made to build the three bedroomed property in a garden on Barnfield Close, Egerton.

Previous application for the site was also refused in November 2019.

The revised plans repositioned the house and relocated the vehicular access and allowed for soft landscaping and a low wall.

Planners heard that 12 objections had been received from neighbouring residents.

Among the issues raised by objectors were that the house would ‘block the view of houses on the west of Barnfield

Close, that the ‘development was out of character for the area’ and that ‘it is far too imposing and would take natural light away from a home on Cox Green Road’.

Leader of the council Cllr David Greenhalgh, who represents the Bromley Cross ward involved, spoke against the proposal at the meeting.

He said: “All the neighbours I have spoken to oppose this due to the negative impact on the street scene, destroying the openness of the close and effecting the overall symmetry and creating a dangerous precedent of overdevelopment of a site.”

Officers had recommended approval of the scheme due to the amendments made after the prior refusal.

Councillors voted eight to seven to refuse the application.
