LOVED ONES have paid tribute to the former practice manager of Great Harwood Medical Practice.

Gillian Young passed away on September 26 aged 78.

The mum and grandma was also a volunteer for the Girl Guides and Scouts Association where she and her late husband Alf spent many years alongside youngsters across Hyndburn and in Bowley.

Gillian was born in Pontypridd, South Wales and always remained true to her Welsh roots.

Her family said that she was proud to tell people that she went to school with Tom Jones.

Gillian was the dearly loved wife of the late Alf and loving partner of Dave, a much loved mum of Carlton and Victoria, dear mother in law of Alison and Nigel and loving grandma of Chelsea, Jessica and Tyler-John.

Speaking of Gillian, former colleague Louise Hinnigan said she was ‘a remarkable woman’.

She said: “Gill was a really lovely woman, she was kind and good to work for.
“As a boss she was hardworking and loved to improve her surroundings and was a real people person. Thoughts are with her family at this sad time. She was remarkable.
Sheila Whatley was a friend to Gillian.

She said: “Remembering a very dear friend and enthusiastic member of Great Harwood camera club as was Alf.

“Although she was not able to attend meetings in recent years she was always interested in the club and its members and all that we did, she will be greatly missed.”

In her spare time, Gillian was a keen dog breeder and was well known and respected in the dog world especially as a breed judge at many shows including Crufts.

Because of her dedication as a scout leader, a tribute from Jason Davenport was left for both Alf and Gillian.

He said: “On behalf of me and I am pretty sure the other scouts that were led by Alf and Gillian I would like to say thank you for all of the amazing times and great memories.”
