STAFF at a local supermarket have pulled out all the stops to ensure hundreds of children can have a nutritious meal.
Atlas Mills Morrisons, on Chorley Old Road, have handed out 120 free packed lunches to charity groups and food banks in the area. An extra 60 meals have been donated to Fortalice, the borough's domestic abuse refuge.
Emma Parkinson, community champion at the store, organised the effort, donating carrier bags to Horwich restaurant ROSA, who gave out hot meals, and donating £100, bananas, chocolate croissants, and 150 loaves of bread to Homeless Aid UK.
The store is also offering free kids meals in the cafe, with parents able to tell staff they have won a free meal to be discreet.
Ms Parkinson said: "We are reaching out to let our local communities know Morrisons is here during these unprecedented times and we promise we will not let any school child go hungry.
"We are also offering free children's meals in our cafe with no purchase necessary and no questions asked.
"To obtain meals in a discreet manor, parents and guardians are asked to tell a member of our cafe team on the till that they have won a free school meal to encourage people in need to come forward."
