At first glance you could be forgiven for thinking that the geometric shape might be that of the Octagon Theatre taking shape.
But this photograph from 1980 shows the construction of Bolton’s new £4 million Crown Court.
The innovative hexagonal building went up next to the Moor Lane bus station. Note in the background the large gasometers. The picture was taken from the crow's nest at the top of the town hall.
