This was the scene in Bromley Cross after a car crashed into a bungalow.

The grey Audi A1 crashed into the home in Higher Ridings, off Darwen Road,  at around 10.20pm on Tuesday, damaging a bedroom.

The room has since been boarded up, with debris from the car and house spread across the scene and a speed sign uprooted and bent out of shape.

The fire service said there were people in the bedroom at the time, but the ambulance service confirmed that no one was injured.

Gerald Gorton, who lives opposite the damaged property in Higher Ridings, said the car made a huge noise before and after crashing into the house with police on the scene quickly and neighbours rushing out into the street to see what had happened.

He said: “I was just sat with a cup of tea watching the television when I heard it all happen.

“There was a long and loud screeching noise from the tyres before a massive bang.

“I looked out my windows and saw a lot of people grouped around it then police and fire were here not long after.”

Darwen Road at this point has a 30mph speed limit, but the resident believes that the severity of the noise and the damage caused to the property means they were travelling way over this.

Mr Gorton continued: “The car must have been going at some speed to cause that amount of noise and damage.

“There’s no way they were doing just 30 to cause all that, it must have been at least 60 if not 70.

“It was really concerning to see.”

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were called at around 10.20pm to a report of a vehicle colliding with a house on Higher Ridings, Bromley Cross.

“The collision involved a grey Audi A1. Emergency services attended.

“Two men aged 18 will attend voluntary interview following the collision."

Bolton North fire station’s crew manager, Mark McCourt, said they arrived at the property around 10.25pm to make the scene safe.
