DETECTIVES have made a rape arrest in Blackburn concerning a wide-ranging child abuse investigation in South Yorkshire.

Operation Stovewood is examining allegations of abuse in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

And the police enquiries focused on an undisclosed address in Blackburn this week, as part of a series of swoops on homes across the country.

National Crime Agency officers have confirmed further arrests were made in Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster, Wakefield and County Durham.

One inquiry is looking at the alleged abuse of one victim between 2003 and 2008 and the arrests saw men aged between 36 and 49 detained between October 7 and 15.

Five further arrests were made in the Rotherham area in relation to a different inquiry, focusing on the abuse of two victims from 2007 to 2009.

All those arrested have been questioned and released under investigation.
