RESIDENTS in Bolton and Bury were left confused this morning when the NHS Test and Trace app raised the alert level from high to "high and very high".

Users of the app received a notification that the risk level had changed, with some believing the area had been moved into the Tier 3.

A number of people from the Smithills area in Bolton as well as in Elton and Unsworth areas of Bury has received the alert notification.

One app user said: "I received the alert and went on the app and saw it had been raised. I immediately thought we had gone into Tier 3 and had missed the announcement — but there is no official announcement I could find to suggest Greater Manchester or Bury had been moved into that tier.

"Does the app think that Bury is still in Lancashire? The goverment's website which the app directs you to still says just 'high'."

The Bolton News understands a number of people received the notification leaving them confused as to what it meant.

Bury Times:

Boris Johnson yesterday issued a warning that he will intervene and impose Tier 3 restrictions on Greater Manchester if a deal cannot be agreed with the region's leaders.

Metro mayor Andy Burnham has fiercely objected to proposals to allow the city region to enter the Tier 3 restrictions unless there is sufficient financial support provided for businesses.
