BUSINESS success-story Euro Garages is trialling a ‘click and collect’ app at one of its petrol station stores in Lancashire.

The EG Group announced last week that it will offer a click and collect service at the Matrix Point shop in Buckshaw Village, Chorley, for shoppers using the new Appy shops mobile phone application and website

A short video shows the range of products to be ordered online for pick-up later.

Ilyas Munshi, group commercial director, said: “Convenience store sales have seen a marked increased since March.

“And with consumers looking to stock-up a bit more than usual and embracing a new pattern of shopping, EG Group is trialling AppyShop, one of many digital platforms currently available in the market, to gauge the consumer appetite for click and collect and delivery.

“Alongside getting a good feel for market trends, the current single-store trial will provide us with a better understanding of operations and technology implementation.”

It comes just a week after the Lancashire Telegraph reported that Blackburn brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa’s EG Group had opened its first ‘Asda on the Move’ store in Walsall, a move which was announced before the group and TDR Capital bought the supermarket giant.

Ilyas Malji, country manager (UK) said: “We are very excited about Asda on the Move and see convenience shopping as a great growth opportunity for EG Group.

“This forms part of a wider trial we are running to better understand how supermarkets can effectively support convenience for customers across our forecourts in the UK.

“The trial was announced prior to the decision by the Issa Brothers and TDR Capital to acquire Asda, and is therefore not connected to their investment in the business.”

The site is part of a three-store trial that will see Asda open on fuel station forecourts in the Midlands during this month.

Customers will be able to shop for ‘essentials’ such as bread and milk, as well as ‘food-to-go’ products.

The site will also feature ToYou parcel points, allowing customers to order items via George.com and more than 100 popular online retailers for collection or return.
