A LARGE horse was rescued this morning, Thursday, after concerns were raised over it not being able to stand up.
Specialist rescue units were sent to stables on Elbut Lane in Birtle at around 11am after reports that a 20-year-old horse could not stand up.
Crews worked with a vet to help the animal.
Bury Fire Station watch manager Rick Taylor: "We assisted a vet as a 20-year-old horse could not stand up on its own.
"The horse was removed out of a stable with the help of a local farmer's tractor in a controlled manner on to it's front
"We released the horse and then it was fine.
"The owner of the horse was really pleased.
"We were there for around one-and-a-half hours."
