A MAN caught carrying a kitchen knife outside Moses Gate Country Park on July 4 has been electronically tagged.

At Wigan Magistrates' Court Harun Arshad, aged 31, of Sandhill Close, Bolton, pleaded guilty to committing the offence.

The court heard that he had been socialising in a car with his cousin and smoking cannabis when the knife was found. But magistrates were told that there is no suggestion that Arshad had carried knives in the past and he has a lack of previous convictions.

He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for12 months and is subject to a 7pm to 7am curfew for eight weeks.

In addition, he must participate in 10 days of rehabilitation activities and was ordered to pay £213 in costs and charges.
