Police arrested a drunk man this morning after he was found asleep behind the wheel of a car in Farnworth.

A member of the public was concerned after coming across the man slumped over the steering wheel on Albert Road and called the police at 5am.

When officers arrived they discovered that the man was drunk and had fallen asleep.

He was breathalysed and had an alcohol level of 69. The drink drive limit in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath.

Police arrested the man for being drunk in charge of a vehicle.

The man was found to be a provisional licence holder. The car was also uninsured as a result was seized.

Greater Manchester Police said: "At 5am we responded to a report of a male slumped over the steering wheel of a car on Albert Road, Farnworth.

"The caller to police was concerned about the male's welfare.

"Well the male was just very drunk and had fallen asleep. Arrested drunk in charge and in custody blew 69.

"He was also a provisional licence holder. No insurance held on the car which was then seized."
