A FURTHER 126 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Bolton, figures have revealed.

A total of 4,409 people in the borough have now been confirmed to have had covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. The rate per 100,000 of people who have had the virus in Bolton is now 1,533.3

Statistics released by NHS England also found that no-one at the Royal Bolton Hospital who tested positive for coronavirus died in the previous 24 hours.

There have been 237 coronavirus deaths at the hospital during the health crisis and six people have passed away after having covid-19.

Across the UK, a further 6,874 cases have been confirmed in the last day and 34 people have died after having the virus in the last 28 days.

The reproduction number, or R value, of coronavirus transmission across the UK still remains above 1 and is continuing to rise.

Data released by the Government Office for Science and the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) shows the estimate for R for the whole of the UK is between 1.2 and 1.5.

All regions of England have an R that is higher than 1, according the Government’s scientific advisers.

R represents the average number of people each Covid-19 positive person goes on to infect. When the figure is above 1, an outbreak can grow exponentially.
