ADDITIONAL lockdown restrictions are being considered for Blackpool as Lancashire bosses are due to announce new measures this afternoon.

Questions have been raised over the last few days as Blackpool remains the only place in Lancashire without the same rules as places such as Blackburn.

New rules on Tuesday meant pubs and bars now have a curfew of 10pm, including Blackpool.

But people in Blackpool can still meet other people with the national rule of six in place.

As the rest of Lancashire came under the new rules, including not being able to mix with other households, people flocked to Blackpool with shocking images showing the difference between Blackpool and other parts of Lancashire.

But the number of new cases is now at 35.1 to 64.5 since last week, which is over a double increase in figures.

Blackpool Council’s director of public health, Dr, Arif Rajpura, told the Local Demicracy Reporting Service that the decision to exclude Blackpool from the regulations had been made by the government on the basis of it having lower infection rates than elsewhere in Lancashire.

Meanwhile, people from other parts of Lancashire were advised not to flock to Blackpool, in the hope of escaping restrictions in their own areas.
