A DAD-OF-THREE has spoken out about his anger after repeatedly seeing cars and motorbikes flying past his house at speed.

Lee Berry, of Church Road, Smithills, wants stricter traffic measures and tougher speed enforcement in place to stop dangerous drivers breaking the road’s 20mph limit.

He has witnessed near-misses and thinks it is a matter of time before someone is killed.

Lee, 47, said: “I used to lived at the top of Chorley Old Road and the primary reason for moving from there was because of the amount of crashes there.

“We went to live on Church Road, which we thought was a quiet 20mph suburban road. But it is being used as an unofficial race track.

“We do not let our children play out on the street because of it.

“As well as cars we also get motorbikes speeding past – you would think the Isle of Man TT was going on outside sometimes.

“It is going to take someone to be killed before something is done about the speeding.

"I have shared my thoughts on social media about the road and it is clear from the reaction that people have had enough."

Lee and other residents want stricter measures to be put in place on the road such as speed cameras.

Nearby Captain's Clough Road also attracts drivers speeding well over the limit, he said.

Smithills councillor Roger Hayes visited Lee to see the problem for himself.

Cllr Hayes said: "I have a lot of sympathy for Mr Berry and the residents who lives there.

"There are other roads in the area and across Bolton where speeding is an issue at the moment.

"The road was made into a 20mph road by the council several years ago.

"We can do anything in the world but at the end of the day enforcement is down to the police."

Greater Manchester Police are currently in the process of setting up a community speedwatch team which will be rolled out across the borough.
