A community group that takes care of a town's park is asking residents to get involved with their Heritage Open Day event by designing pieces of artwork to put on display.

The Friends of Bold Venture Park in Darwen want nature-loving Darreners to celebrate the beauty of the Grade II Listed town park by creating pieces of art inspired by their favourite aspects of hidden nature.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Participants are asked to create an image of their favourite finds using any medium they like, be it photography, drawing, painting, sewing, baking, rock art, or nature sculpture.

Chair of FOBVP, Julie Manton said: "The list is endless so use your imagination and surprise us.

"To enter just send us a photo of your creation via Instagram with the hashtag #boldventurepark, by Facebook @BoldVentureParkDarwen, or email on fobvpdarwen@gmail.com by September 14.

"We will print, laminate and display the photos around the lake from 11am until 4pm on Sunday September 20, but if you'd prefer to exhibit your original artwork bring it to the park on the day so it can be displayed on the steps of the war memorial as part of the open air gallery."

Lancashire Telegraph:

The free event is open to all from 11am until 4pm on Sunday September 20.

To help with inspiration, those who wish to enter are invited to watch a virtual nature tour of the park by Discover the Wild, which has been posted on the group's Facebook page.

Ms Manton added: "Look out for it on the Friends of Bold Venture Park Facebook page from late August.

"If you come to the event, remember to explore both the upper and lower parts of the park and perhaps combine your visit with a walk up the hill to Darwen Tower.

"The event will run in line with local and national government guidelines in relation to the coronavirus at the time of the festival."
