AN iconic Spitfire plane saying ‘Thank U NHS’ performed a fly-over past the Royal Bolton Hospital this weekend.

The Second World War fighter plane which carried a message thanking health workers for their efforts on the frontline amidst the coronavirus pandemic made a swooping flight over the town on Sunday.

The amazing moment that the Spitfire plane flew past the hospital was caught on camera.

The spectacle had been organised to lift the spirits of people across the country, many of whom are still living in some form of isolation, while also thanking the hospitals, communities and individuals who have been at the forefront of getting the country through the pandemic.

Members of the public were offered the unique opportunity to nominate the name of a family member, neighbour or community hero to be handwritten onto the Aircraft Restoration Company’s blue photo-reconnaissance Spitfire, in return for a small donation to NHS Charities Together.
