There has been a spike in cases of coronavirus in the borough as a further 68 people have tested positive for the virus, according to the latest Government figures.

As of 4pm August 30 there were a total number of 2,357 cases recorded in Bolton. Yesterday the figure stood at 2,289, meaning there are 68 more cases of the virus.

This reflects a national trend of a rise in cases, as 1,715 more people have contracted covid-19 in the UK, compared with 1,108 new cases reported on Saturday August 29.

This brings the total number of positive tests in the UK to 334,467.

Bolton currently has a cumulative infection rate of 819.7 cases per 100,000 of the population.

Only one new death has been recorded due to the virus in the UK, bringing the total number of deaths after testing positive to 41,499.

The number of deaths at Royal Bolton Hospital remains unchanged, with the last death being recorded on August 22. In total 231people have succumbed to the virus in the hospital.
