Homes in Horwich are finding themselves without electricity this evening as the area experiences a power cut.

The power outage was first reported at 7pm and Electricity North West staff are currently resolving the issue.

Earlier 2,754 customers were affected in Horwich and surrounding areas, but staff have been working to resolve the issue and power has been restored to the majority of homes. 

Electricity should be restored to the remaining 383 homes by 8.30pm.

Electricity North West said:"Update on the fault in Horwich we have managed to restore supply to the majority of our customers affected however there are still 383 off supply.

"We have an estimated time of restoration of 8:30pm for the remaining customers off supply. apologies for any inconvenience caused.

"The power cut in your are has been caused by an unexpected incident on our high voltage cables which provide electricity to your property."
