A teenager was arrested last night, Saturday, after a large knife was found at a railway station in Greater Manchester.

Officers spotted a youth carry out a "very quick, not so subtle U-turn" as he was disembarking, after spotting uniformed officers and police dog (PD) Tia waiting on a train platform.

When he was spoken to, police said there was an unmistakable smell of cannabis.

Following a search, a large knife was found hidden along with drugs.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and is awaiting a charging decision.

The name of the railway station was not named by police.

The arrest was made as officers took part in Greater Manchester Police's Operation Sycamore.

The operation is aimed at reducing violence against persons, reducing under 25's engaging in knife enabled crime and reducing homicide in user 25's with a zero tolerance approach to those found committing crime.

PD Holly also helped out with the operation last night.

In a separate incident, GMP said a police dog played a vital role in catching a robbery suspect.

A GMP Trafford South spokesman said: "PD Ted finished off his set of night shifts tracking straight to a suspect for a violent robbery.

"The suspect was attempting to hide from officers but with PD Ted, there is no hiding place he can't find.

"Time for some well earned rest days."
