ONE of the men involved in the killing of barrister’s clerk Joe O’Brien has been told he must serve an extra two-year prison sentence for drug dealing.

Daniel Kamara was one of two men convicted over the April 2019 death of 24-year-old Mr O’Brien outside The Royal Oak pub in Failsworth.

His friend Momodu Jallow fatally stabbed their victim during a large fight near the Oldham Road hostelry.

Jurors at Minshull Street Crown Court heard that Kamara was taken to hospital that night, after the violence.

Prosecutor Alaric Bassano said that after the defendant had been treated for his injuries he was searched by police who found 13 wraps of what they believed to be class A drugs.

The court heard that it would later transpire that 10 of the wraps were crack cocaine and further three were heroin.

Investigators also recovered a mobile phone, a £10 note and 17 £1 coins.

Arrested and interviewed, Kamara denied all knowledge of the mobile.

Kamara, now 23, of Beswick Drive, Failsworth, was convicted of two offences of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply after a trial.

He was found not guilty of drugs offences in relation to an alleged 2018 seizure of similar substances.

He is already serving an 11-year sentence for the manslaughter of Mr O’Brien, alongside a wounding charge, relating to the same incident, and was told he must serve an additional two-year term for the drugs offences.

Jallow, then 21, from Moston, was given a life sentence, with a recommendation he serve at least 22 years, after being convicted at Liverpool Crown Court of murder in relation to the pub violence.

Mr O’Brien had been with others that night, collecting a friend who had become concerned after a fight outside the pub escalated and spilled over onto Pole Lane.

Jallow stabbed Mr O’Brien in the neck once, as he walked towards their friend.

A statement released by his mother later read: “Every day, every week, and every year, Joe is and will be on our minds. He is missed so much by so many.”
