We've also lost a lot of shops and independent retailers along the way, including names that were once renowned well beyond Bury.

Bury

This Is Lancashire:

Bury in 1965. Haymarket Street looking towards Market Place. This whole row of shops is sadly no more.

Bury in 1970. Sir Robert Peel keeps watch over the Market Place. The Corporation Transport offices is now a Wetherspoons pub sharing his name, and the Lloyds Bank and opticians is now Wyldes pub.

Whitefield

Sadly there is no date for this shot of the Four Lane Ends stretch of Bury New Road. Although the Red King pub is clearly still open for punters.
