A caring mum has gone the extra mile for Bolton Hospice once again by braving the shave to raise money in a time of need for the hospice.

Andrea Martin has so far raised £2,836 for the hospice after braving the shave and having 17 inches of hair cut off, all of which has been donated to the Little Princess Trust.

Andrea raised the money in memory of her dad, Andrew Weir, on the anniversary of six and a half years after his death and raised over £2,500 more than her original target of £250.

This is not the first time that she has fundraised for the hospice, with Andrea previously taking part in the Manchester 10k with her husband and son, participating in the hospice’s annual midnight memories walk, and sharing her story as part of the light up a life appeal.

Andrea said: "For a while now I have been talking about taking on a different challenge after taking part in many running events and I have decided to cut my hair off and donate it to the Little Princess Trust.

"In the current climate charities have usually had many different events, currently have no extra funds coming in and need our help.

"My family and friends would have taken part in many events this year for the hospice and other charities so I’m going to do what I can.

"Bolton Hospice was there for our family when we needed it the most and played a huge part in supporting us before, during and after our beloved dad’s death.

"Although my dad didn’t ever need a wig, we spent many months in the Christie and saw first hand the difference these wigs make to the morale of some patients.

"It feels great to be supporting some other families with this too. Dad would have been really pleased."

Kathryn Willett, interim fundraising manager at Bolton hospice, said: "Andrea is a dedicated supporter of the hospice having taken on the Manchester 10k with her family in the past and has proudly supported our Midnight Memories Walk and Light Up a Life appeals too.

"Andrea definitely surprised us this year when she said she was going to brave the shave for Bolton Hospice.

"It's thanks to people like Andrea that we are able to continue to provide the vital care that so many local people depend on. We can’t thank Andrea enough and we think she looks amazing with her new look."
