A NURSE and his mum from High Legh are among three winners to receive a £30,000 prize with People's Postcode Lottery.

The trio landed the cash when their lucky postcode was drawn this morning, Thursday.

Ashley Fenton, who works as a community nurse, discovered he had won when his mum came across two golden envelopes posted through the door.

"I was in work when my mum rang me and I thought it was a scam," the 30-year-old explained.

"I was like, 'I bet you’ve not read it right' – I just couldn’t believe it.

"I’ve been waiting to put a deposit down on a house and it would’ve taken me years to save up so that’s sorted now.

"I’ve never seen that much in my account ever.

"I think the bank could be ringing me up and saying something isn’t right here!

"I’m chuffed I’ve finally got money and can start putting plans together."

Ashley's mum, Lorraine Houghton, originally encouraged her son to sign up and play.

Warrington Guardian:

The 62-year-old said: "I’m over the moon.

"This means a lot to me but I’m just so happy for Ashley.

"As a nurse, he’s been in the midst of everything going on at the moment and as a mother I’ve been beside myself.

"He finished university two years ago and has worked so hard so I’m really pleased for him."

Lorraine is planning on putting her winnings towards a new home.

Meanwhile, Sam Cotton, a 31-year-old self-employed farrier, will be saving the money to help his growing family.

Warrington Guardian:

"My wife Amber and I have a four-year-old son, Harry, and we’ve a little girl on the way who is due in December so this has really, really helped," Sam said.

"We’re renting at the minute and squirrelling away money for a house deposit when we can and then this just comes along.

"It’s a hell of a lot of money and has sped up the process no end.

"We can get a nice new family home now.

"When something positive hits you like this it’s just really nice and with everyone winning together it just picks everyone up."

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt, spoke to the High Legh winners over Zoom.

Warrington Guardian:

She said: "I couldn’t be happier for Ashley, Lorraine and Sam.

"It was really lovely to chat with them and hear how much of a difference this will have on their futures.

"And in the case of Ashley, it just goes to show that you should always listen to your mum!"

A minimum of 32 per cent of ticket sales goes directly to charities and players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise more than £500 million to date for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
