A four-year-old boy had to be airlifted to Alder Hey Children's Hospital after being hit by a van.
Police are now appealing for witnesses following the incident, which happened on Friday afternoon.
The boy, who is from Poulton, had entered Victoria Road in Lytham St Annes at around 4.10pm and was hit by a Volkswagen Transporter van.
He suffered a serious leg injury and was airlifted to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
A spokesperson for the police said: "We are appealing for witnesses after a collision involving a young boy in Lytham St Annes on Friday.
"It happened at around 4.10pm when a four-year-old boy from Poulton has entered Victoria Road and was hit by a Volkswagen Transporter van.
"The boy suffered a serious leg injury and was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital by air ambulance.
"He remains in a serious but stable condition."
Sgt Paul Maguire from West Tactical Operations said: “Our thoughts are with the boy and his family at this incredibly distressing time. We wish him a speedy recovery in hospital.
“If you think you saw what happened or have any dash cam footage, please contact us as you could have information that is very important to our investigation.”
