A man who stabbed a woman with a kitchen knife 17 times and left her for dead has been jailed.

Bartosz Pokorski, 23, appeared at Preston Crown Court on Thursday having previously pleaded guilty to attempted murder following the incident, which took place on January 11.

Pokorski and the victim, who is in her 40s, were at an address in Blackpool together when Pokorski claimed he wanted to show her something on social media.

When she went to look he stabbed her 17 times with a large kitchen knife, stopping only when she pretended to be dead.

PC Tim Ong, of Blackpool Police, said: “This was a horrific attack which was completely unprovoked.

"Pokorski attacked the victim with a terrifying ferocity, leaving her fighting for her life, and as a result she has been left with both physical and psychological scars.

“I am relieved that Pokorski pleaded guilty and didn’t put her through the further ordeal of a trial, and I am satisfied with the sentence handed to him today.

"I hope the victim is now able to move forward with her life and put this behind her.”

Pokorski, of Hornby Road, Blackpool, was sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison, with an extended licence period of five years.
