A MAN was arrested after he allegedly attacked a landlord and a police officer on the first day that pubs were allowed to re-open from lockdown.
A huge police presence was spotted on the road outside The Sun pub in Blackburn town centre on Saturday afternoon.
Images taken at the scene show a bloody, topless man, wearing a spit hood, being bundled into the back of a police car.
It is believed the man had been told to leave not long after entering, and when refused service by the bar staff had launched an attack on the landlord.
Phillip Price, landlord of The Sun, said: “It was a stressful day anyway and I wanted to keep an orderly ship and make sure everyone was doing as they should and then he turns up.
“He was told he wasn’t getting served, and then he just jumped on me and started throwing punches.”
A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.15pm on July 4 to reports of an assault at a public house in Astley Gate, Blackburn.
“A 32-year-old man, from Blackburn, was arrested on suspicion of assault and assault on an emergency worker. He has since been released on bail.
“There was an increased police presence in the area at the time as part of our reassurance plan around pubs re-opening at the weekend.”
