A teenage girl had to be rescued by fire crews after falling down an embankment at a park.

Two fire engines from Nelson, as well as an aerial ladder platform and the urban search and rescue team attended Marsden Park on Walton Lane in Nelson just before 4.30pm on Monday after receiving a call to say a young girl needed help and was stuck down a ravine.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "A group of girls had been playing on the park and one of them had gone down an embankment and then couldn't get back up.

"The grass was slippy and she was having trouble trying to pull herself out.

"We used a line to help bring her to safety.

"Luckily she wasn't hurt and once she was out she went on her way."

Firefighters were at the scene for 45 minutes.
