AN ABERGELE singer songwriter will share the fruits of his labour with front line staff and key workers.

Mike Powell has released his single This Flame in My Heart, to raise money for NHS Charities Together.

Originally written in 1993, Mike has launched the single as his wife Hilary, a physiotherapist at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Rhyl, works to support s orthopaedic staff at Glan Clwyd Hospital during the pandemic.

Rhyl Journal:

Mike, who is 65 and currently on furlough from his day job at Mini Muckshift Plant Hire & Contracting in St Asaph, said: "This composition was written by myself in 27 years ago years ago.

"This Flame in My Heart Will Never Die for You was a combination of years of true life experiences, suddenly brought together to capture a real feeling of love, peace and even loss.

"From my mum passing away when she was only 56, my children being born, very first love - It is meant to mean different things for different people, essentially, a love, that's never forgotten.

"So when pandemic broke, I felt this song would help in some way to give a message of hope. It's heartfelt and just seemed ideal.

"So I spoke to my friend and former manager Andy Simson of Cosam Entertainment about using the song to raise funds for the NHS, and it is now released on digital and streaming platforms – with 100 percent of the profit going to the charity."

The three minute song has been recorded on three separate occasions since 1993.

The latter arrangement was produced by the late Gordon Lorenz - who died at his home in Llandudno in 2011 - with some of the work being completed at the prestigious Studio 2 of Abbey Studios in 2011.

Lorenz was the man responsible for 1980 No 1 Christmas single There's No One Quite Like Grandma and worked with Shirley Bassey, Charlotte Church, Atomic Kitten and more across his career.
