A Scottish Olympian has responded on Twitter to George Square protests last night.

Kieron Achara, Glasgow Rocks Basketball player who was in Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics, took to Twitter to blast the violence that occurred in George Square last night.

He said: "I’ve been doing a lot of thinking today regarding the craziness that took place at GeorgeSquare in Glasgow yesterday.

"I am angry and disappointed at the racism that took place but at the same time I am trying my hardest to empathise....

"I pride myself on trying to be empathetic and understand from another perspective but with this I am struggling.

"If you were there yesterday please explain to me why you were doing what you were doing? Tell me about your anger, your feelings.

"Help me understand...I know at this moment in time there is feelings of US vs THEM but in reality we are all in this together.

"We have to find a way to see we have more in common and that our differences are in fact a positive. We need to channel our anger and find solutions."

Kieron is the youngest player ever to play for the Scotland national team, featuring in the FIBA Europe Promotion Cup.

He made his debut for Great Britain in 2008, shortly before turning professional.

Six arrests were made following the clashes on Wednesday night in George Square.
