HUNDREDS of people took part in a peaceful demonstration in Bournemouth on Saturday over the death of George Floyd.

The anti-racism protest was held after Mr Floyd, 46, died after a white police officer held him down by pressing a knee into his neck in Minneapolis on May 25.

The protest saw speeches and a health and safety briefing take place near Bournemouth Pier between 1pm and 2.30pm.

This was followed by a march to Boscombe Pier between 2.30pm and 4pm, during which marshals will be “helping to implement social distancing as best as possible.”

After arriving at Boscombe pier, those present observed eight minutes and 46 seconds of silence, the length of time George Floyd was pinned down by police

Bournemouth Echo: People taking part in the protest observed social distancing with many opting to wear face masks.

Police and ambulance were in attendance throughout but the demonstration remained peaceful.

It comes just days after hundreds of people attended a peaceful gathering at the town's square, gardens and outside the town hall on Tuesday.
