URGENT action is needed to stop speeding across the borough.

MP Mark Logan called for new measures to be put in place after being contacted by an "avalanche" of people concerned about their roads.

The elected official for Bolton North East earlier contacted authorities calling for speed-reducing measures in Breightmet.

Residents from Halliwell to Egerton have contacted Mr Logan to complain about reckless driving, leaving the MP shocked.

He said: "Reckless driving is happening in all areas across Bolton and is causing many residents a headache.

"We need to work towards an effective solution to put this to an end."

Many of the problem areas have a 20mph speed limit, and drivers can often be seen travelling twice or three times as quickly.

Some residents have taken matters into their own hands, setting up a group to monitor local traffic.

The Tonge Fold Community Speedwatch scheme has recorded vehicles travelling three times the speed limit on numerous occassions, and has worked alongside GMP to secure repercussions for the speeding drivers.

Mr Logan added: "I’ve been incredibly impressed by the initiative our community members have shown in regards to speeding.

"Whilst this is a great example of leadership, we need the speed limits across Bolton to be adhered to in order to keep us and our loved ones safe."
