A COMMUNITY group has lifted the spirits of care home residents during lockdown by providing them with TVs and radios so they can keep in touch with the outside world.

Community Spirit, which is based in Blackburn, usually hosts a street cafe once a week to feed the town’s homeless, but due to the coronavirus crisis it has been unable to provide the service.

So instead, they found other charitable ways of keeping busy, helping local care home residents and patients in the East Lancashire Hospice by donating radios and televisions.

Community Spirit trustee Debbie Miller said: “While we aren’t able to deliver the street cafe just now, we have still been helping out in the community with food parcels, donations to community appeals and other projects to help those in need."

The radios and televisions were split between East Lancashire Hospice, Rockmount care home, Higher Bank care home, St Andrews Court, Branch Court and Feng Shui House.
