KINDNESS was the order of the day as a Whitefield fundraiser teamed up with a popular eatery to help boost wellbeing during Mental Health Awareness Week.

Marco Papaleo joined forces with Roma Italian cafe in Bury New Road to deliver 79 lasagnes people across the community.

Recipients were asked to make a donation to the Ruth Strauss Foundation lung cancer charity, founded by former England cricket captain Sir Andrew Strauss in memory of his wife.

The event raised over £1,000, and brings the total raised by Mr Papaleo to £4,350

ahead him running the Manchester Marathon for the charity this October.

Previously, in March, Mr Papaleo and Mandy Labrianidis hosted a fitness day which raised £1,800.

Mr Papaleo said: "I have an opportunity now to really push on and raise a huge amount of funds on the back of this awareness and have been offered more platforms to raise funds in the future for the RSF from community who enjoyed the lasagne together."
