CAMPAIGNERS who created rainbow arches to brighten up Bury have reached a £10,000 fundraising target.

Last month the Bury Times reported how Helen Coverdale had added a touch of colour to Castle Road in Unsworth with her balloon artwork.

And since then, with the help of neighbours and friends, the fundraising, selling rainbow ribbons for charity, has taken off, with homes across the borough sporting their symbols.

Now with the help of daughters Anya and Rhiannon, and friends s Julia Yeomans and Suzanne Hannaby-Williams, they have provided a huge boost for Salford Women’s Aid, Samaritans, Alzheimer's Society and Young Minds.

Helen said: ""We asked for a minimum donation of £3, however so many people have been so generous, it's blown me away.

"Big donations have come in from Laser HQ and the folks at Prestwich, Salford and Whitefield 41 club, plus support from Dotties Pantry."

She paid tribute to her supporters, for putting together the rainbow bows - and friends Alison and Phil Hill for allowing their Tottington home to be used as a collection point.

Helen added: "I made a bow for my house and then my neighbours houses and then it snowballed.

"I have over the last few weeks seen school friends and ex work colleagues I’ve not seen in years and I have met some amazing new people and some have become friends.

"I am still doing the rainbow bows and wreaths and raising money."

Those interested in securing a bow can order online at fb.com/Helaballoo or via text on 07599 624 759. They can also be picked put at 5 Castle Road, Unsworth.
