WITH the current coronavirus pandemic dominating all our lives, much attention has been placed on the latest hi-tech equipment being used to help save lives.
Back in 1924, this was the ultimate in technology - the ultra-modern X-ray equipment which had just been installed at Bolton Royal Infirmary.
It may look little more than a wooden table with some added pipework and a few switches, but this was a revolutionary machine when it was introduced.
Sadly, not everyone was able to benefit from it, as it was not until the creation of the National Health Service in 1947 that free health care was available to all. In 1924, medical service had to be paid for.
