STAFF at Royal Bolton Hospital have been wearing red to show their support for research trials being carried out to help the coronavirus.

The hospital is participating in three research trials, and staff from pathology, pharmacy and critical care are all involved.

In recognition of the hard work being undertaken by hospital staff, workers took part in Red 4 Research day on Friday, a campaign created by Sally Humphreys, chair of the NHS R&D Forum research management working group.

The latest trial launched at the Royal Bolton Hospital is the recovery trial which looks at the how treatments being used for other conditions can be used to improve recovery from the coronavirus.

A spokesperson for the hospital said: "Staff are wearing red to show support for those involved in research into Covid-19.

"This included the recovery trial, the study aims to evaluate treatments that may be beneficial for patients with confirmed Covid-19.

"We're very proud of all staff that are involved."

The radiology department at the Royal Bolton Hospital has also been helping in the fight against coronavirus by submitting x-rays for research.

A hospital spokesman said: "Our radiology department is proud to be contributing to important imaging research being carried out by the British Society of Thoracic Imaging in the fight against Covid-19."
