A WOMAN is pulling out all the stops to give her best friend's family a special outdoor space for their daughter with cancer.

Caroline Tattersall, a good friend of 42-year-old Lisa Gamble, has set up a fundraiser to revamp the Bolton family's garden.

Lisa and her husband Rob, 39, were told their daughter, five-year-old Sophie, had a rare form of cancer in August last year.

The garden of their Bromley Cross home was supposed to be Rob's summer project, but his daughter's diagnosis threw his work schedule off track.

Now, Caroline is trying to raise £3,000 to give the Gamble family the perfect outside space for the brave youngster.

She said: "We are looking at a total overhaul for her back garden where she has access to exercise, soft areas, sun, and nature.

"She's very weak so it needs to be a pretty, and most importantly, safe environment.

"I am trying to get £3,000 from friends and family before approaching businesses for any help they can give.

"Her mum and dad want to make her a nice garden space where she can be outside getting fresh air and vitamin D in a safe environment.

The brave youngster is going through chemotherapy for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, which lowers her immune system and makes her more susceptible to infection.

Her type of cancer affects white blood cells, the body's defence against illness.

It leads to large numbers of these important cells being released before they're ready, when they're less effective at fighting infection.

Despite Sophie's condition, she's still very bright and cheerful.

Caroline added: "She is currently going through really gruelling chemo and invasive procedures but she is absolutely hilarious – chatty, fun and wise beyond her years.

"She was supposed to start school in September but of course hasn't been able to, she is completely house bound because of her low immune system - even before corona.

"Please help us to build her something amazing while she continues her brave fight against cancer."

In just six days, Caroline has raised nearly £1,200 for the project.
