PLANS have been lodged for bungalows for the elderly.

An application has been submitted to Burnley Council proposing to build the new development on land at Claremont Street in Burnley.

A spokesman for the developers said: “The project is for the erection of 10 social accessible housing units predominantly for retirement purposes.

“The site is an unused brownfield site which previously benefitted from planning permission for the erection of 18no apartments.

“The proposed location is on the site of a former school nursery.

“The existing school on the site closed many years ago and was subsequently demolished. The site is presently fenced off and kept in a tidy condition.

“It was felt that bungalows would be a better fit.

“Most properties within the area are two storey with the exception of the store building and vehicle repair workshop adjacent therefore this development will not impact on the massing within the area. The design of a single storey development would increase the feeling of community which apartments would not provide.

“The development will be 100 per cent affordable with the scheme being held for over 55 age group. The development will be held in a single ownership with a management team acting for the tenants.

“It is not planned that the properties will be available for purchase individually and will be on a let basis for occupancy.

“The properties will comprise two bedrooms, living, dining and kitchen areas together with an accessible bathroom. As the development is wholly affordable there will be no requirement for an off-site contribution.”
