MOORSIDE train station has been left "out of action" this morning after it was completely gutted by fire.

All trains running to and from the station have been cancelled and commuters are being advised to use Swinton Station instead.

In a tweet National Rail said: "Due to a fire at Moorside station no trains can call there today. Customers are advised to use Swinton (Manchester) instead.

"A shuttle service will operate between Moorside and Swinton. This will be operated by Dave's Handy Riders."

Fire crews were called to the station in Moorside Road, Salford, shortly before 2am this morning.

They battled the blaze for around two hours as flames tore through the main building, including ticket office and walk through and access stairs to the platform.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently being led by police and fire service investigators.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said it is expected that the station will be "out of action for some time."
