A YELLOW weather warning for snow and ice is in force for Bolton and the rest of Greater Manchester today.

The warning comes as the region was battered by Storm Ciara on Sunday, with localised flooding being experienced throughout Bolton.

A Met Office amber weather warning for wind elapsed at 9pm last night as Storm Ciara moved away to the North East of Scotland.

Now part of the UK are braced for blizzards and up to 20cm of snow in the wake of the storm — with a yellow warning of snow and ice in force for Bolton throughout today and tomorrow.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said: "While Storm Ciara is clearing away, that doesn't mean we're entering a quieter period of weather.

"It's going to stay very unsettled.

"We have got colder air coming through the UK and will be feeling a real drop in temperatures, with an increased risk of snow in northern parts of the UK and likely in Scotland.

"There could be up to 20cm on Monday and Tuesday and with strong winds, blizzards aren't out of the question."

Bolton Council gritters were out in the early hours  carrying out a "high level route grit".

Today's weather is a mixture of hail showers and a "fresh" breeze. Temperatures could fall to a low of three degrees, reaching a maximum of six degrees.

More than 200 flood warnings were issued across England on Sunday.

The River Irwell burst its banks at Radcliffe.

Manchester Airport recorded gusts of 86 miles per hour.

A yellow warning for heavy snow and strong winds is in place for Northern Ireland and most of Scotland
