Here's all of East Lancashire's electric car charging points

As the government announced this week the UK announced it will move its legal goal to reach zero emissions by 2050 by banning new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2035, the Lancashire Telegraph has looked at how many charging points there are in the region so far.

Using website ZapMap it has been revealed there are 57 charging points in the east of the county.

The interactive site breaks each charging point down into how fast it charges, network and types of payment.

It also provides live information as to whether the charge point is being used.

Blackburn with Darwen

The borough has 16 public charging points.

Four are located around the town centre, with a further three on Whalley New Road.

Darwen has two in the town centre.

Hyndburn

There are only five public charging points across the borough, with one in Accrington town centre and one on the edge of Oswaldtwistle.

The other three are in Clayton-le-Moors and Great Harwood.

Ribble Valley

There are 10 public charging points across this leafy borough, with one near Mellor Brook, Whalley, Billington, Clitheroe and Hurst Green.

There are two further afield in Waddington and Tosside.

Burnley

Across Burnley and Padiham there are seven charging points.

There's one in Westgate, Princess Way, Kingsway House, one in Colne Road and one in Bancroft Road.

There's also one at the Holiday Inn Express off Pendle Way.

Pendle

There are eight charging points across Pendle, with one in Manchester Road and off Netherfield Road in Nelson.

There's one in Gisburn Road in Barrowford and two in Windsor Street, Colne, and one in Albert Road.

There's also one in Barnoldswick in Ellis Street and one in Boot Street, Earby.

Rossendale

There are six public points in Rossendale.

They include Prince Street in Ramsbottom and one at the Fisherman's Retreat in Riding Head Lane.

There's one at the Tesco superstore in Rawtenstall, and opposite the Royal Mail delivery office in Kay Street.

Deardengate in Haslingden has one and so does King Street in Bacup.

Cllr Phil Riley, executive member for growth and development at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “We are very proud to be leading the charge, so to speak, in introducing so many electric car chargers.

"It is positive for the environment in improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions which is a big priority for us, and the electric and hybrid car market is growing all the time.

"This is an important part of pour strategy on climate change which is being published next week.

"Two more electric car chargers are being installed in the new Reel Cinema complex which will be available in the coming months, and we are keeping an eye and demand and will definitely look into adding more chargers in our car parks if the need is there, so people driving electric cars can charge up easily.

"It is also an incentive for people to switch to these types of cars.

"We feel this is a really positive step in aiming for a greener and environmentally friendly future for the borough."
