TAUHEEDUL Islam Girls’ High School scored the best A-level results in the borough, Government figures show.

The school was also the second best for progress students make in the sixth form.

Blackburn with Darwen’s results were below the national average with just 6.5 per cent of students achieving at least AAB grades ­— which include two strong academic subjects ­— compared to 16.5 nationally.

And the average grade achieved by a student was C, nationally it was C+.

Results achieved by the students at Tauheedul Islam Girls’ School smashed local and national averages, with 17.9 per cent achieving the top grades of AAB.

And the overall average grade achieved at the school was a B.

Students make “above average progress” while at the school. The score measures the progress young people made from finishing their GCSEs to the end of their A-level studies, compared to similar students across England.

Asia Ali, Head of Sixth Form, described the results as 'fantastic'. She said “We are delighted to have secured such an exceptional set of A-level and vocational results, with so many of our students achieving the highest grades. These results have helped our young women to secure degree and apprenticeship places at some of the very best providers in the country.”

The next best performing school based on the A-level exams of summer 2019 is Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, with its result of 16.7 per cent of students achieving at least AAB. The average grade score was a C.

Students at Darwen Aldridge Enterprise Studio made well above average progress, placing the sixth form number one in the borough for this measure. The results are suppressed because of low pupil numbers.

In Lancashire 15.1 per cent of young people achieved AAB with Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School being the top performing local school in the borough. Young people achieved an average of B-, with 25.4 per cent achieving at least AAB.

Clitheroe Grammar School’s result stood at 22.3 per cent of students achieving the Government benchmark. At Runshaw College, placed number three with a result of 16.3 per cent and Stonyhurst College, where 15.1 per cent achieved AAB, students made above average progress. The average grade at both was B-.
