THE parents of a brave toddler who died of a rare genetic condition are organising an event in his memory.

Tristan Elijah Campbell, aged two, was born with heterotaxy syndrome, which caused his internal organs to be abnormally arranged in his chest and abdomen.

But this did not stop the "happy, chatty" boy from living an adventurous life.

His parents Kate and David Campbell, from Radcliffe, said: "You wouldn’t know it from looking at him, but his heart was back to front and on the wrong side of his body. Tristan had right atrial isomerism, meaning in early development his body tried to form two right hand sides. His heart had multiple defects, effectively meaning he only had half a heart, which was connected to his lungs via his liver. As well as only half a working heart, many of his other organs were misplaced or missing. It shouldn’t have worked, but miraculously did. He was a real Picasso of creation.

"Tristan's condition did not stop him living life to the full. There was no stopping him from having fun. He truly was the best ever."

Since their little boy died on January 30, 2018, Kate and David have been fundraising and raising awareness.

Their next event, the Best Ever Ball, is aimed at raising funds for Alder Hey Children's Hospital, where Tristan received treatment.

Kate said: "We have pledged to honour our son's life, and share his joy, through supporting those who have supported us on our journey.

"We are eternally grateful for the NHS and the people who work for it, especially those on the intensive care unit (ICU) at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital — they gave us the chance to make memories and be a family. We want to help them to do the same for future families."

The Best Ever Ball will be held at The Lowry Hotel, on April 4, 2020.

Guests can expect a three-course dinner with prosecco on arrival, from 7.30pm. There will also be a raffle and a silent auction.

Bury band I Beg to Differ will be performing love music for the occasion, followed by a DJ at 1am.

The family is also looking for individuals or businesses to sponsor the event, at £100 per table.
