A START-up business in Bury is celebrating being named as a finalist at the Asian Wedding Awards.

Judges have nominated fledgling venture Polaris Events in their event decorator of the year category.

And the Cornwall Drive outfit, which only launched in December 2018, will find out if they have been successful at a glittering ceremony being held in Manchester on February 12.

For managing director and co-founder Fazil Shah it is reward for the enterprise he set up after planning out his own wedding.

He said: "From experience, we know only too well how stressful planning your perfect day can be.

"We found we had vendors not getting back to us, often times it felt like we were begging companies to take our money, as well as having many people force selling their ideas onto us.

"It’s because of this that we have made it our mission to disrupt an industry, in a positive way, that is known for lack of transparency and unjustifiably high prices.

"Everything we do is underpinned by our values, we live and breathe them and the end result is turning your dream wedding into a reality.

"It is such an honour that not only our hard work, but our passion and love for this industry has been recognised and so early on in our career."

Away from the matrimonial industry the young family-run company has also been making headway with several leading commercial clients in the Bury and Bolton areas.

Their expertise has been deployed by the likes of Saville and AO.com and they have also worked on showpiece installations at venues such as Bolton's Market Place shopping centre.

Judges say the firm secured their nomination through their "unique business model", by offering a bespoke service suited to clients' exacting requirements.

"They have managed to create a ‘try before you buy’ scheme in an industry where you typically can’t guarantee you’ll have your dream day until you walk in to say ‘I do’," added the judges.
