A section of motorway has been closed due to flooding in the carriageway.

One lane of the M65 westbound, from junction 10 for Burnley/Padiham going towards junction nine for Burnley has been closed.

Posting on Twitter, Highways England said: "The #M65 westbound from #J10 (#Burnley #Padiham #A671) towards #J9 (#Burnley) 1 lane has been closed due to flooding in the carriageway.

"Maintenance Crews are en-route.

"Traffic Officers are on scene."

In December, Lancashire County Council Labour group leader, Cllr Azhar Ali, called for ‘urgent action before someone is killed’, following a string of accidents caused by flash flooding on the carriageway.

Drainage work is scheduled to be carried out on the M65 this year after the spate of minor smashes in standing water caused repeated delays on the motorway, between Junction 10 at Burnley to its end at Colne’s Junction 14.
