GRIEVING families could have more choice in how their loved ones' bodies are examined by coroners.
Families are currently faced with a choice between speed and means as access to scanning equipment and specialist staff is limited, according to senior coroner Joanne Kearsley, as there is only one scanner available across the North West.
She also explained that non-invasive post-mortem examinations are offered to families at a cost of £500.
She said: “We are looking at trying to bring non-invasive exams as a matter of routine for everybody but there are cost implications with that.”
A business case to improve provision is being worked on by local authorities in Bury, Rochdale and Oldham.
