A WOMAN who smashed a bottle over a man’s head and stabbed him in the neck with the same weapon is set to face a trial after denying she meant to cause him serious harm.

Tyler Louise Preston appeared in the dock at Preston Crown Court where she admitted unlawfully wounding Phillip Haworth in Lord Street, Blackburn, during an incident on August 31, but denied wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Prosecuting Francis McEntee said Mr Haworth suffered a wound to the throat as a result of the incident, but the carotid artery had not been severed.

Preston, 22, formerly of Rydal Road, Blackburn, but now of James Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon in relation to the same incident.

She also pleaded guilty to an affray in Blackburn on August 16, which is also said to have involved the throwing of a bottle.

A trial, lasting two to three days, was set for June 23.

Preston was given bail and must report to Darwen Police Station once a week.
